I believed that I could visualize Japanese aesthetics through pruned trees. To express this aesthetic sensibility, I chose an approach that incorporates the use of negative space, a technique commonly found in traditional Japanese art forms such as Nihonga and ink wash painting. In Japan, there is a culture of appreciating koi in various settings. Nishikigoi live gracefully in environments free of natural predators, coexisting and thriving alongside humans. When observing their movements, one notices them playfully interacting with one another and occasionally interweaving movements with their tail fins that resemble dancing.
